2010 ANNUAL MEETING in REVIEW
From the opening video on Working Forest Conservation Easements through to the Thursday night’s Quest for the Best Game Show, the NCFA’s 2010 Annual Meeting proved to be entertaining, informative and in some cases, inspirational.
“All of the comments that we have received on our program and the venue were extremely positive,” stated NCFA Vice President Bob Slocum. “The video interview with Frank Borman really worked out better than we could have imagined and all of our speakers did an outstanding job with their presentations.” Undoubtedly, a star was born in Pinehurst as the Working Forest Conservation Easement video debuted, starring landowner Parker Lumpkin. Copies will be made and circulated to various groups based on requests. “I guess all of us in the development process had seen the video so many times, we really did not know what to expect when an outside audience saw it for the first time,” stated Slocum. “Clearly, it is a success not only from an information standpoint, but also, in its entertainment value.” The speaking program examined invasive species, the biomass issue, political forecasts and updates, and some specific pending federal issues in regards to logging roads and pesticide use. Senator Michael Walters addressed the membership just prior to the business luncheon on the challenges North Carolina is set to face next year. On Thursday evening, the NCFA honored Steve Henson with its Outstanding Service to Forestry Award while Harry Warren received the Communicator of the Year Award. The NCFA’s Annual Meeting will return to the beach next year and take place in Wilmington on October 12-14, 2011.
