LOGGING & BIOMASS EXPO Smithfield, NC - October 7-8, 2011
A new regional logging and biomass centered event designed to appeal to theforestry equipment community at large and to forest-related businesses in multiple states is being planned for next fall in eastern North Carolina. Hatton-Brown Publishers, Inc., parent company of Southern Loggin’ Times and TimberHarvesting, is teaming with the North Carolina Forestry Association (NCFA) and the North Carolina Association of Professional Loggers (NCAPL) to sponsor the Mid-Atlantic Logging & Biomass Expo on October 7-8, 2011. Registration for this event will be handle by Hatton-Brown Publishers. The plan is the outgrowth of recent discussions among the sponsors, all of which are experienced in staging live logging demos and shows. NCFA’s biennial Carolina Log’n Demo has been ongoing since 1981 and Hatton-Brown has sponsored or supported similar regional shows, for 30 years. The NCAPL successfully orchestrated more concise logging-biomass demos in 2009-2010. Demo efforts of both North Carolina organizations are being blended into the larger regional endeavor. Among Mid-Atlantic Logging & Biomass Expo sponsors, the consensus is that traditional forest and/or logging trade shows have lost much of their appeal in the region and that the time has come for a fresh, innovative and expanded venue. “By bringing the strengths of our organizations together, we will field a logging and biomass expo that will offer a wide range of activities and topics,” stated Bob Slocum, the Executive Vice President of the North Carolina Forestry Association.
