Water Quality Headlines

Forestry operations in North Carolina must comply with the forest practice guidelines for water quality under the state Sedimentation Pollution Control Act. The guidelines are designed to prevent sediment and chemicals from entering streams or other water bodies during a forestry operation. Compliance with these provisions is generally considered adequate to meet federal nonpoint source pollution requirements under the Coastal Zone Management Act and the Clean Water Act. The state Division of Forest Resources is charged with technical oversight and implementation.
