The National Academy of Sciences, in response to Congressional legislation, has formed a task group to study the scientific foundations for identifying total maximum daily loads (TMDL’s) for pollution discharge into waterbodies. The group is chaired by Dr. Ken Reckow from the Water Resources Institute at North Carolina State University.
However, rules still exist related to TMDL’s and some states, including North Carolina, are moving to develop TMDL’s for identified rivers or waterbodies. In North Carolina, the state is working with a broad stakeholders committee to develop TMDL’s for the Neuse River. The NCFA is participating on this stakeholders committee.
