
ENVIRONMENTAL CAMPS ON THE HORIZON....The NCFA’s Forestry and Environmental Camp will be held in Asheville, Greensboro, Raleigh, Wilkesboro and Wilmington. These successful camps are for sixth grade students and provide a hands-on learning experience. The first two dates have been set. The Raleigh camp which will be held at Lake Crabtree will take place on April, 21-25, 2008. The Greensboro camp will take place at Carolyn Allen Park on May 27-29, 2008. Foresters can earn CFE credits for volunteering at these camps. NEXT PROLOGGER PROGRAM WILL BE SOUTHEASTERN COMMUNITY COLLEGE...The North Carolina Forestry Association’s comprehensive ProLogger educational program will be held at Southeastern Community College in Whiteville on MaY 21-23, 2008. The course will run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday, the class will move from the lecture hall to an active logging site for a Field Recognition Day in the Whiteville area. FORESTRY DAY IS JUNE 3RD...The NCFA’s Forestry Day in the Legislature will take place on June 3, 2008, starting with a briefing at 9:30 a.m. and concluding with a lunch on Halifax Mall starting at 11:30 a.m. Forestry Day remains the best opportunity for NCFA members to come to Raleigh and directly interact with their elected officials and set forth how important forestry and the forest products industry is to North Carolina’s environment, quality of life and economy. Please plan on attending this important event in 2008.
TEACHERS' TOURS....The dates for the Sustainable Forestry Teachers’ Academy have also been set for next year. The Asheville Academy will take place on June 16-20, 2008. The New Bern Tour will take place on July 14-18, 2008. These workshops traditionally host 30 teachers each. The program includes visits to educational forests, forest products companies and private forests. The camp is free to participating teachers.
