NC County Forestry Statistics

How to Read Forestry Facts for North Carolina’s Counties

This document has been devised from a comprehensive alignment of statistical publications. It focuses strictly on North Carolina counties. Its TOTAL figures accurately depict the forest manufacturing industry’s influence in North Carolina. Its by-county categories, however, do not reflect data for less than three businesses of a particular variety in a county, as per Economic Security Commission regulations. The result is that some data is labeled as "supressed." The suppression is not by the forest industry. For instance, Weyerhauser Co. in New Bern and Plymouth, and Champion International in Canton and Roanoke Rapids have made available their employment and payroll totals for their respective counties: Craven, Martin, Haywood and Halifax. ESC does not include these. Therefore, where possible, NCFA has included these in the county totals. That data, however, is complete in the state totals.

Explanations of the footnotes used in the following table are given below:

1Includes farmers, individuals, non-forest industry.
2Column total does not equal sum of counties because some employment and payroll data is not assigned to a specific county.
aDoes not include furniture due to data suppression.
bDoes not include paper due to data suppression.
cDoes not include furniture and paper due to data suppression.
dNot available due to data suppression.
