ProLogger Program
This program, which began in 1994 in response to a high number of logger injuries and fatalities in North Carolina, is designed to enhance the professionalism of timber harvesters through education and training in safety, environmental issues and business management. Participants who complete the required 24 credit hours of training through local community colleges receive a diploma and designation as a Professional Logger. ProLoggers must complete an annual continuing education requirement to remain in good standing. Click here for a program flyer/registration form or a schedule of upcoming classes.

Defensive Truck Driver Training Program
This four-hour defensive driving and jobsite safety course was developed by the North Carolina Forestry Association in cooperation with the N.C. Department of Motor Vehicles Enforcement Division and the N.C. Community College System to reduce the number of injuries and accidents involving log trucks on the state’s highways. Certified truck driver trainers from the N.C. Truck Driver Training School at Johnston Community College teach the course, which uses an interactive video to illustrate realistic situations that truck drivers face on the road and how to deal with those situations safely.

Logger Safety Awareness Workshop
This six-hour course is held on Saturdays and involves both indoor and field sessions aimed at eliminating logging accidents and injuries. All boss loggers and their employees will benefit from this intense session that concentrates on safety.

Resource Library
The NCFA offers a variety of teaching/education materials including posters, a CD ROM, a 17-minute video on forestry, forest inventory book, forest products industry fact book, a landowner's guide and an extensive collection of safety and training videos that are available for check-out. Materials are available to both members and the public.

Volunteer Truck Inspections
The NCFA has teamed up with NCDMV Enforcement to offer voluntary truck inspections throughout North Carolina.   The inspections typically start first thing in the morning and continue through the afternoon.  The purpose of the inspection program is to ensure all trucks meet safety standards required by NCDMV.   Each driver has the opportunity to have his vehicle inspected with minor problems being handled on site by NCFA sponsoring companies. The drivers receive other road safety items such as reflective tape and load flags.  In addition, each truck that passes the inspection is given a three-month sticker that advertises that the truck has recently passed all required safety standards.  Click here for a program flyer/registration form .
