The Friends of Forestry Political Action Committee (FFPAC) is composed of NCFA members and individuals interested in supporting candidates for the North Carolina General Assembly who are friends of forestry and the forest products industry.
Established in 1999, the FFPAC is non-partisan and is registered with the North Carolina State Board of Elections.
The “Right to Practice Forestry” law of 2005 is landmark legislation that recognizes a landowner’s right to practice forestry. Each year, the NCFA and other stakeholders support legislation that benefits forest landowners and forest products members.
Champion forestry/agricultural interests by organizing more effective political action and by creating awareness of the importance of forestry to the economy and the environment.
As North Carolina continues to urbanize, much of the voting population comes from 14 urban counties. It is critical that those concerned with forestry interests take an active role in politics in North Carolina. The FFPAC supports state legislators who support forestry.
All monies solicited shall be voluntary contributions and may not be secured by physical force, job discrimination, or financial reprisals; by dues, fees, or other monies required as a condition of membership or employment; or as a requirement with respect to any terms or conditions of employment. Additionally, North Carolina law requires political committees to report the name, mailing address, job title or profession, and name of employer or employer’s specific field for each individual whose contributions aggregate is in excess of $50 in an election cycle.
The FFPAC is not bound by the Democratic or Republican (or any other) party. Environmental and business issues are not party specific. The FFPAC’s support for a candidate will be based on their voting record, past support of forestry issues, or their stated platform regarding forestry-related and business issues.
All gold FFPAC members are invited to committee meetings to determine whom to support and how much will be contributed to an individual campaign. This committee will solicit and accept advice from NCFA members and others knowledgeable about the candidates.
If you would like to become an FFPAC supporter, your contributions must be paid with personal funds, not with company checks or credit cards. There are two ways to contribute:
Any contributions made to the FFPAC must be personal funds. For example, the FFPAC cannot accept a donation on a company check or company credit card. As a reminder, donations to the FFPAC are not tax deductible. Contributors may not make donations in excess of $5,600 per election.
All monies solicited shall be voluntary contributions and may not be secured by physical force, job discrimination, or financial reprisals, or by dues, fees, or other monies required as a condition of membership or employment, or as a requirement with respect to any terms or conditions of employment.
Additionally, North Carolina law requires political committees to report the name, mailing address, job title, or profession, and the name of the employer or the employer’s specific field for each individual whose contributions aggregate in excess of $50 in an election cycle.
FFPAC Board members determine who to support and how much to contribute to an individual campaign. The Board will request and accept advice from all FFPAC contributors and others knowledgeable about candidates. If you have any questions, please reach out to NCFA by calling (919) 834-3943 ext. 1.
