North Carolina Tree Farmers of the Year

The North Carolina Tree Farm Program accepts nominations each year for its North Carolina Tree Farmer of the Year Award.  Out of the field of nominations, a committee narrows down the field and visits up to three Tree Farms.

In addition to the North Carolina Tree Farmer of the Year Award, the North Carolina Tree Farm Program also submits a candidate to the American Tree Farm System’s National Tree Farmer of the Year Award.  This extremely competitive competition breaks the nation into four regions.  The North Carolina Tree Farm program has several Tree Farmers to make the final three of the Southeast region.

North Carolina has two National Tree Farmers of the Year, including Bob and Jean Cooper, who were the Southeast Regional winners en route to becoming North Carolina’s first National Tree Farmers of the Year in 2008 and Dwight & Judy Batts who were the Southeast Regional winners and the state’s second National Tree Farmers of the Year in 2014.
