The NCFA received over 1,000 essays from students across the state in for the National Forest Products Week Essay Contest. The contest was sponsored by the North Carolina SFI Implementation Committee, the North Carolina Forest Service and the NCFA. All three participating partners were were extremely impressed with their thoughtful and intelligent responses.
The essays were broken down into three groups – elementary school, middle school and high school. The winners were:
Lily Greene from Green Ridge Elementary School in Troy, NC – Read Lily's Essay.
Quinn Hennessey from Margaret B. Pollard Middle School in Chapel Hill, NC – Read Quinn's Essay.
Anthony Villena from Pine Forest High School in Fayetteville, NC – Read Anthony's Essay.
“Thank you to the teachers, parents and administration for supporting these students, and promoting forestry education in the classroom,” stated the NCFA’s Education Programs Manager, Amy Juliana. “We also appreciate the financial support and volunteer efforts we received from our partners to make this new initiative a reality.”
