“What a unique opportunity and difference this may make for students. Thank you for supporting the educational endeavor of all students in science of forestry.” - Hobbton Middle School Teacher
In its fifth year, the North Carolina Forestry Association (NCFA) Forest Products Week Essay Contest once again hit a new record! NCFA received 591 essays from as far east as Kill Devil Hills and as far west as Hayesville! Last year, we received 533 essays, thus growing our program by 10.8%! The NCFA had student participation from 66 out of the one hundred counties in NC. Conservative estimates include 5,000 students engaged with or introduced to forestry topics through the contest this year!
Thank you to all who participated, and to the teachers and parents that supported these students. A panel of forestry professionals from the NC Forest Service and the NCFA served as readers to help select the winning essays. Thank you to Christie Adams and Robert Ross from the NC Forest Service, and the NCFA’s Amy Juliana, Mike Powell, and Kristen Fontana for serving on the panel this year!
On behalf of our sponsors, NC Sustainable Forestry Initiative State Implementation Committee, and the NC Forest Service, we are excited to announce the following winners:
